West Hollywood Aquatics (WH2O) is a friendly, inclusive Masters aquatics club based in West Hollywood, California. We are proud to be home to more than 300 athletes from across Southern California, ranging from beginners to former Olympians. At WH2O, we believe the water is for everyone, regardless of skill level, gender, race, sexual orientation, or ability.

 

 

Our History

WH2O was founded by a group of passionate swimmers training for the inaugural Gay Games in 1982. After returning from the Games, they formed what became the West Hollywood Swim Club, one of the founding members of International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA).

Our story is celebrated in the award-winning documentary Light in the Water (2018), directed by WH2O teammate Lis Bartlett, which chronicles our team’s legacy and impact on the LGBTQ+ sports movement. Our Programs

Today, WH2O proudly offers three disciplines:

  • Swimming

  • Water Polo

  • Ocean (Open Water)

We are sanctioned by United States Masters Swimming (USMS) and USA Water Polo (USAWP). Our swimmers are members of Southern Pacific Masters Swimming (SPMS), part of USMS’s Southwest Zone. Our polo players belong to Zone 11 (Coastal California) under USAWP.

Across all disciplines, our members compete at the local, national, and international levels. We offer professionally coached daily workouts, seasonal clinics, and a supportive community that helps athletes achieve their goals, in and out of the water.
