Ten WH2O swimmers descended upon the Marguerite
Aquatic Center, home of the Mission Viejo Nadadores, for the MVN
Masters Long Course Swim Meet on Sunday, June 6. And
“Swimming Studs” are the best words to describe our
group.
In preparation of the upcoming Gay Games, most of
our swimmers competed in as many events as possible to hone in on
their racing skills. While some swimmers were far from their
personal best times (which is OK at this time of the season), most
placed well or learned stroke and/or racing tips to improve their
swims. For example, Robert Cook who placed 2nd in both
the 400 IM (7:18.25) and 200 Breast (3.26.50) improved his stroke
recovery in his breaststroke. Jessica Seaton, top finisher in
her age group in all events that she swam, learned the importance
of a strong kick. Her times: 50 Brst (49.7), 100 Brst (1:46.07),
200 Brst (3:48.90) and 400 IM (7:51.83). Dean Buckley improved his
starts as the meet progressed, winning the 100 fly (1:33.66) and
200 fly (3:46.50) in his age group. Jay Olson was the silent stud,
competing in five strenuous events. In his age group he placed:
1st in the 400 free (6:19.47), 2nd in the
1,500 free (25:04.00), and 3rd in 50 brst (48.24), 100
brst (1:49.01) and 200 brst
(3:51.70).
Neil Wiener raced like a champ earning top
finisher in his age group for the 400 IM (7:56.11) and
2nd place finishes in the 200 free (3:12.79), 100 fly
(1:54.32) and 200 fly (4:18.01). Neil also learned the importance
of bi-lateral breathing on his freestyle to maintain a balanced
stroke. Chuck Larson swam a strong meet winning three events in his
age group: 200 fly (3:18.90), 1,500 free (23:09.21) and 200 back
(3:31.09). Mauro also had a strong meet and won all of his
events in his age group. He learned the importance of proper head
position in his butterfly stroke. Mauro’s strong swims were
50 Brst (36.73), 100 Brst (1:23.34), 200 Brst (3:00.15) and 400 IM
(5:57.45).
Paulo F. and Errol G. showed off their backstroke
prowess by earning top finishes in their age groups as well. While
Errol learned the importance of a fast turn-over in his other
races, he swam an impressive 3:30.34 in the 200 Back. And
Paulo’s top finishes were in 50 (40.35) and 100 back
(1:29.21) and the 50 fly (36.54).
Enrique Ochoa also swam a strong meet winning the
200 free (2:30.26) in his age group and placing 2nd in
both the 100 free (1:06.01) and 50 back (38.38). Enrique also swam
an impressive leg of the 200 Free Relay with Mauro B., Errol G. and
Dean B. earning the relay 2nd in the 160 – 199 yr
old division.
Way to go
